This is the same turf used in Lambeau Field
home of the Green Bay Packers, Husky Stadium home of the
Washington Huskies, Tropicana Field home of the Tampa Bay Devil
Rays,
the new Seattle Seahawk stadium, and numerous pro fields.
This turf is
filled with a rubber and sand mixture, that creates a
hitting mat that feels like real grass.
Only $299
Want to practice out of the rough? No
problem! Looking for a fairway lie? Absolutely!
You can
adjust the fill level and mix ratio to adjust the lie and
feel. By adjusting the amount of fill, you can change the
height of the turf. This allows you to determine whether or
not you wish to practice fairway lies, rough lies, or
somewhere in between.
Then
you can take a real divot without destroying the mat or
damaging your clubs. The club head sinks into the rubber /
sand mixture on your way through the ball. The correct golf
shot involves striking the ball first, and creating a divot
with the sole of your club after the club strikes the ball.
With the typical golf mat, this isn't practical, and
certainly does not feel like hitting off grass. With field
turf when you hit a shot fat, you will know it, because it
feel like a fat shot, sounds like a fat shot, and flies like
a fat shot.
Installation
1)
First position the mat where you want it to go. If you plan
to set the Field Turf into existing grass, cut out a section
of the turf to match the size of the mat. If you plan to
install over a hard surface, simply position the mat on the
hard surface. You may note the the fibers seem too large
initially.
2)
Next mix the entire contents of the bag (shredded
rubber) with 120 lbs of 30 mesh silica sand. You can pick
this up at most lumber yards for about $10. If you can't
find sand at the local building supply store, check with any
masonry supply store.
To
mix, simply place shovel sand and rubber into a large
container or wheelbarrow, and mix the two with a shovel as
you fill the container. For a softer feel use a higher
rubber ratio, for a firmer feel use a higher sand ratio.
3) Next
load the mixture into a garden spreader and evenly
distribute about 1/4 inch of the mixture onto the Field
Turf. Depending on your spreader setting, this should take 3
or 4 passes.
4)
The
next step involves raking the mixture down into the bottom
of the turf, and fraying the fibers. Take the supplied
fraying tool and vigorously scrub the Field Turf. As you
scrub the mixture drops to the bottom of the turf, and the
large fibers are split into smaller micro fibers.
5) Repeat
steps 3 & 4. Continue to add fill 3 or 4 passes at a time.
Rake and fray after 3 or 4 passes, and continue laying down
fill until the entire mixture is used up, or the desired
height is achieved.
Once the desired height is achieved you are done! As you
practice, you will notices that repeated shots taken in the
same area of the mat will move the fill around. Simply
re-rake that area until the desired effect has been
achieved.
